Web Design is more than a job its a love

I have had the opportunity to work for and consult many companies on the importance of web design in their company marketing strategy. Unfortunately I have come upon many clients that have fallen prey to "Money Saving" ideas, and paid the real price for it later. Mabey this story of a client will help you understand what some of the real cost are to "saving money".

Surprisingly enough, based on the findings from my recent survey there are quite a bit of Fireworks users. Personally, I never used Fireworks. Photoshop is alway my first choice for designing—from image editing to designing mock-ups.

Well I have has a few weeks to play with the product interface. I have to be honest. It took a few trys to get the system set up the way I wanted it to work. (For my first project with Magento the products that my client was selling was pretty intense.)

Magento E-CommerceMy First impressions with Magento are good. It seems easy to install and the documentation is good as well. I feel that it needs a little bit easier way to customize the layout, but other than that I think that I will be using it from now on.

If you have never designed a print advertisement, it can be somewhat intimidating at first. But by following some simple guidelines, you can be sure to have clear and effective ads in every issue of your newsletter. Be sure to check out our before and after redesign of a sample ad at the end of this article!

The answer to this question is a definite... "Maybe".
I know, I'm a web developer and I'm supposed to go on and on about how you absolutely need your company, club, church group, and hobbies to have websites- but the fact of the matter is that you don't.

What in the heck is going on in the web design industry? I was doing a bid on a faily complex set website for a local festival called Chasco Fiesta. I was refered to the commity by a good friend of mine. I didnt want to over charge them so I made them a deal. I will only charge you 1500 if you give me a sponsorship for the chasco fiesta. This is a greatly reduced rate from what I would have normaly charged them for all of the options that they wanted, plus all of the design work that it was going to take on my part.

With the rise in the web 2.0 movement sometimes small companies get wrapped up in the dynamic website movement. The fact is is that most company needs can easily be handled with a simple 3-5 page static html website. Especially with the strides in Ajax and javascript coding over the years you can get a static css based html website for a lot less that a dynamically generated database driven website most of the time. But it does have its obvious limitations. If your company requires a live update forum or a blog like this one you will usually have to go with a database driven website. But is all you are looking for is ease of use and beauty an html site is hard to beat.

This is the Sign of the Design Times. When you see a push for better standards. I haven't been in the business as long as a lot of other people but I have been in industries where not having a standard for the work that your field performs results in a tragedy of sorts. Everyone does there own thing parts (or in this case code) are not cross compatible, etc, etc. The It is quite funny because the push has been so great that even a GIANT like Microsoft is correcting their browser that they tauted as the best to conform fully to the standards that every other browser is already and HAS been using for years now by building a new Explorer V8. GO STANDARDS! One more for the little guy!
